“War on Terror” is Stupid; Miliband Gets Smart
As part of my series Celebrating Intelligence, I’m highlighting this article by David Miliband, the foreign secretary, admits that the term “war on terror” is:
“misleading and mistaken.”
Finally, after eight years of generating fresh conflict, of throwing fuel on flames, the British government seems to be waking up to the reality that a war on terror is like having a fight against violence. Miliband also writes:
The more we lump terrorist groups together and draw the battle lines as a simple binary struggle between moderates and extremists, or good and evil, the more we play into the hands of those seeking to unify groups with little in common.
Hooray! Perhaps this means we can begin to repair the damage done by Bush and Blair.
Thank-you Mr Miliband for being intelligent!
